Privacy Policy

Zignal Labs, Inc. (f/k/a PolitEar, Inc.) (“Zignal Labs”) takes the private nature of your personal information very seriously. This Privacy Policy describes how we treat the information we collect when you visit and use the Services and mobile applications available at ZignalLabs.com (the “Services”). Please read this notice very carefully.

1. Services Visitors

Like most website operators, Zignal Labs collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Zignal Labs’ purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Zignal Labs’ visitors use its Services. From time to time, Zignal Labs may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its Services.

Zignal Labs also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol

(IP) addresses. Zignal Labs does not use such information to identify its visitors, however, and does not disclose such information, other than under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information, as described below.

2. Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

In order to use the Services you must enter certain personal information, such as your name and email address. In order to charge you for Zignal Labs’ services, you must provide us with a valid form of payment and a phone number. Once registered, you must enter keywords and topics on which Zignal Labs will aggregate information from across the web. Some of these topics may be considered personal information. The more information you provide (and the more accurate it is), the better we are able to customize and provide our services to suit your needs and preferences. In each case, Zignal Labs collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of your interaction with Zignal Labs. Zignal Labs does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. You may always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent you from using all features of the Zignal Labs application. Zignal Labs is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. Please do not use Zignal Labs if you are under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided Zignal Labs with personally identifiable information without the consent of his or her parent or guardian, please contact us at privacy@zignallabs.com.

3. Aggregated Statistics

Zignal Labs may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to the Services such as the number of topics Zignal Labs tracks. Zignal Labs does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

4. Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

Zignal Labs discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on Zignal Labs’ behalf or to provide services available at the Services, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using the Services, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. In addition, in some cases we may choose to buy or sell assets. In these types of transactions, user information is typically one of the business assets that is transferred. Moreover, if Zignal Labs or substantially all of its assets were acquired, or if Zignal Labs goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquiror of Zignal Labs may continue to use your personal and non-personal information only as set forth in this policy. Otherwise, Zignal Labs will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations or as described above, Zignal Labs discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only when authorized to do so by law, or when Zignal Labs believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of Zignal Labs, third parties or the public at large.

If you are a registered user of the Services and have supplied your email address, Zignal Labs may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with Zignal Labs and our products. If you send us a request (for example via a support email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users. Zignal Labs takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information. For users outside the United States, please note that any personally-identifiable information you enter into the Services will be transferred out of your country and into the United States. You consent to such transfer through your use of the Services. You also warrant that you have the right to transfer such information outside your country and into the United States.

5. Links to Third Party Sites

This Privacy Policy only applies to information collected by Zignal Labs. This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of companies that Zignal Labs does not own or control, or personnel that Zignal Labs does not manage. The Services contain links to third party websites. Any information you provide to, or that is collected by, third-party sites may be subject to the privacy policies of those sites, if any. We encourage you to read such privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit. It is the sole responsibility of such third parties to adhere to any applicable restrictions on the disclosure of your personally-identifying information, and Zignal Labs and its affiliates shall not be liable for wrongful use or disclosure of your personally-identifying information by any third party.

6. Security

All non-personally-identifying information, potentially personally-identifying and personally identifying-information described above is stored on restricted database servers.

7. Choice/Opt-out

Zignal Labs may send you information by e-mail concerning new products, services or information that you did not expressly request, however in the event we send you any promotional information, we will provide you with an e-mail address by which you may request no further notices.

8. Usage Tracking/Hardware/Software/Cookies

When you use the Services, we automatically track information related to your use of the Services. This information may include (among other things) content viewed or posted by you and the pages you view and other actions you take while using our Services. There is also information about your computer that is automatically collected by Zignal Labs when you are using the Services. This information can include information such as your browser type, IP address, mobile device platform, Internet connection speed, access times and identification of any software program or hardware that has previously caused technical problems with the Services. Zignal Labs may store this information using a string of information stored on your computer (a “cookie”), and that your browser provides to the Services each time you return. . Zignal Labs uses cookies to help Zignal Labs identify and track visitors, their usage of the Zignal Labs Website, and their Services access preferences. Zignal Labs visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using the Services, with the drawback that certain features of the Services may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

9. Data Retention Policy

As a Controller and Processor of customers’ data Zignal Labs retains data only for the time of which it is needed to deliver an effective service to our customers. In order to formalize this approach to data retention, Zignal Labs is adopting the following data retention policy effective May 25th 2018:

Log and system interaction data older than 2 years are removed automatically.

In order to provide a consistent and reliable user experience, user account and configuration data are stored indefinitely.  In the event an individual user, or an account wishes to remove or export their account and configuration data, please contact Zignal Labs Customer Support to initiate a custom case.

Data provided to us from data partners is stored according to contractual and legal obligations.  In any case where personal data is shared from our data partners, Zignal Labs provides the ability to remove that data from our system in both automated and manual ways.  Please contact Zignal Labs Customer Support to initiate a custom case.

10. Data Processor or Controller

Zignal Labs is a Data Controller under the GDPR.

12. Address Book Data

Any external address book data (email contacts, etc.) that a user voluntarily gives Zignal Labs access to will only be used for the described feature (looking up friends, etc.), and will not be stored or repurposed.

13. Privacy Policy Changes

Zignal Labs may change its Privacy Policy from time to time, and in Zignal Labs’ sole discretion. If we do then we’ll notify you by posting the amended policy on the Services or by emailing you of the nature of the modifications along with a link to the modified document so that you can review it. In all cases, use of information we collect now is subject to the Privacy Policy in effect at the time such information is collected.

14. Review and Access

Upon your request, we will provide you with a summary of the information we collect about you. You will have the opportunity to correct, update, modify or delete this information by sending an e-mail to privacy@zignallabs.com. Please note that some information may remain in our records after deletion of your account.
